Grains, nuts, and dried fruits can harbor hidden risks in the form of mycotoxins, including Vomitoxin, Zearalenone, Aflatoxin B1, T-2 Toxin, Fumonisin, and Ochratoxin A. These naturally occurring toxins pose serious health threats, from acute poisoning to long-term effects such as liver damage, immune suppression, and even cancer.

September 17 marks International Microorganism Day, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the vital role microorganisms play in our daily lives. From ensuring food safety to protecting public health, microbiology continues to shape industries, innovations, and global sustainability.

WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day each year on 7 June, working closely with Member States and other stakeholders including civil society, academia, and others.
