1. Product Overview

FSTest Shigella spp. Detecting Plate is a ready-to-use, single-use dehydrated culture medium system engineered for the rapid, precise, and cost-effective detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli (E. coli) in food, beverage, and environmental samples.

Utilizing targeted enzymatic chromogenic reactions, Shigella spp. colonies selectively hydrolyze specific substrates during incubation to yield distinct, easily identifiable colored colonies. Combined with an optimized nutrient profile and selective inhibitors that effectively suppress background contaminants, this format eliminates the labor-intensive preparation of traditional agar media (boiling, autoclaving, pouring plates) while delivering rapid, highly specific visual interpretation.

2. Key Benefits

  • Fast Time-to-Result: Delivers definitive colony counts in just 15–24 hours, saving up to 24–48 hours compared to traditional culture and MPN methods.

  • Ready-to-Use & Zero Media Prep: No glass Petri dishes, autoclaving, or agar preparation required—simply inoculate, incubate, and read.

  • High Sensitivity & Accuracy: Detection limit as low as 1–10 CFU/mL (g), ensuring compliance with strict international food hygiene standards.

  • Unambiguous Visual Reading: Highly specific chromogenic reaction produces vivid white colonies, drastically reducing manual counting errors and false results.

  • Space & Cost Efficiency: Ultra-thin paper-film format takes up minimal storage and incubator space, while significantly reducing biohazard disposal waste and shipping costs.

  • Flexible Transport & Long Shelf Life: Stable at ambient temperatures (up to 15 days of room temperature shipping without cold chain reliance) with a 18-month shelf life under standard refrigeration.

5. Test Procedure

STEP 1
Inoculate
Place plate on flat surface. Lift upper film and pipette 1.0 mL of liquid sample onto the center of the bottom film.
STEP 2
Incubate
Place the sealed detecting plates. Stack together the detecting plates, incubate upside down at 36± 1°C for 15-24 hrs.Up to 12 detecting plates can be stacked.
STEP 3
Interpret
Count white colonies using the built-in grid. Results can be counted manually or with an automated reader.

6. Performance & Validation

  • The FSTest Shigella spp. Detecting Plate delivers rapid detection of Shigella spp. in food products within 15–24 hours at a sensitivity of 1–10 CFU/mL (g), identified by distinct white bacterial colonies.

Compatible Instruments

  • MC1000 Automatic Colony Counter: High-throughput image capture, automated colony recognition, & data export.

  • Microbial Test Sampling Box: Portable kit for field sampling & environmental surface testing.
