Automated Colony Counting for Count Plates: Improving Consistency and Traceability
Colony counting is often treated as a simple final step in food microbiology. In practice, colony morphology, plate density, spreading growth, background artifacts, image quality and analyst interpretation can all affect the reported colony-forming unit (CFU) result. Automation can make visual enumeration more consistent, but it does not replace control of the microbiological method.
